Probate and estate administration

When someone dies, we can take the worry off your mind and deal with probate and estate administration efficiently and sympathetically.

If you're not sure where to start, you can have an informal meeting with one of our Probate lawyers to go through what needs to be done to obtain a Grant of Representation, and discuss how the estate is to be administered.

What is Probate?

Where a valid Will has been made a grant of Probate is needed to give the named executor the right to collect in the assets, pay any tax and debts and then distribute the estate according to the provisions in the Will. If there is no valid Will the law provides for the next of kin to take out Letters of Administration and then collect in the assets to pay any tax and debts and to distribute to any next of kin in a strict order.

The main thing you need to know is that when it comes to dealing with these issues, you'll always find the knowledge you need in our solicitors.

How can we help?

Our probate team has a huge amount of experience to help you through your claim, including:

  • Confirming a Will's validity
  • Finding out what's in an estate
  • What to do if there is no Will
  • Finding missing beneficiaries
  • Preparing Inland Revenue accounts
  • Completing an oath for a Grant of Representation
  • Paying Inheritance Tax
  • Collecting assets and paying debts
  • Distributing the estate to those entitled

Thank you for the kind, efficient and thoughtful way youhave helped us over the past few weeks. We are very grateful for all you have done for us.
